Ben's broken right foot
Ben rode his scooter to work this morning and as he turned into the driveway to the parking lot, he hit some loose gravel and the scooter laid down, smashing his foot under it. He got up, pushed the scooter up the small slope and parked it, walked back down the slope to look at the area to figure out what caused the accident, then walked back up to the store. He called me to say that his pants got ripped and asked me to bring another pair of pants. He sounded just fine and like it was no big deal. About 3 minutes later, he called again, to say he needed a shirt too as the right shoulder of his shirt had been torn, oh and bring shoe polish too because his shoe got scuffed up. Then he called again just a minute later to say his foot was really hurting and maybe we should just go to the hospital. By the time I got there about 10 minutes later, he couldn't even put any weight on it. I felt so bad for him! His ankle and lower calf area was all scraped up. He said it was the adrenelin after the accident that masked the pain and made it possible for him to be walking up and down. We got to the hospital and he had to wait for about an hour until they sent him to get an x-ray, then another hour and a half or so until he was seen by the doctor. He broke the middle three metatarsal bones by the joint that connects the toes to the foot. They got the scrapes all cleaned up and put a temporary cast on. He's got an appointment with a podiatrist in the morning to see if he will need surgery or not. The ER doctor thought the x-ray showed the fractures were a little off and might not heal correctly, so that's why Ben needs to see the specialist. He may need to have pins placed to help the bones heal straight.

Hmmm I think I will mention this to Brandon in my effort to convince him he doesn't need a scooter. But knowing him he'll just do it anyway =)
